Cause We Can is a small start-up consisting of three partners. I wanted to convey their very hands-on approach as well as their flexibility in customizing a truly unique event. Since they are a small studio, I wanted a very un-corporate feel for the site to imply an intimate experience.

Strategy
Prior to going straight to design and build, we first reworked the structure of the site. Originally, all the categories were placed in a left hand column in no particular order. After spending a few days going through over a thousand products, with the help of post it notes, and some research, we came up with 7 categories, each with their own subcategories.

CAGE (Criminal Analysis and Gathering Engine) is a premier data tracking system for state and county law offices such as prosecutor offices. I wanted to focus on the search function and the fact that the information it is analyzing and searching is criminal in nature. I used a blocky, bold font to give the feel of jail bars and law enforcement and the scope cuts through the logo to convey that the system tracks and manages complex case information.

Inspired Innovations: The Great Idea Contest was a contest sponsored by Inc.com and Homewood Suites. The contest was a call for original and creative ideas–any ideas that seek to overcome a challenge, solve a problem, or present an entirely new way of doing things–and the winner would be published in Inc Magazine and receive $5,000 to bring their ideas to life.
This microsite lived on Inc.com and consisted of three phases. The first phase was a call for entries, the second allowed readers to select their favorite idea, and the third announced the winner.


These Inc.com and Homewood Suites co-branded ads were run on Inc.com to promote the Inspired Innovations: The Great Idea Contest. The design had to be flexible enough to apply to three different ad sizes (leaderboard, imu, and skyscraper) and animated. There were two phases of banners; the first promoted a call for entries and the second promoted voting on the semifinalists.

AIGA Pittsburgh’s Annual Design Competition is a showcase of the best examples of communication design in Pittsburgh. The project was to design a cohesive system that translates into the exhibition space (the Three Rivers Arts Gallery), an identity/way finding system for the space, 2005 annual catalog, and design brief. The system also had to represent a definition of the word “context.”
This was a group project consisting of four members. Our concept focused rhythm because we feel that rhythm reflects the design process in that it communicates innovation and opposes stagnancy. In building the exhibit, we want to focus on intersections, in-andout movement, and ebb and flow, all of which mirror the design process—especially during the brainstorming stage, when ideas are constantly thrown back and forth.


At the beginning of every semester, alpha Kappa Delta Phi sorority has a two week “rush” period during which the sorority hosts events and activities to recruit girls. Every “rush” has a new theme and flyers are created to promote the events.
For the spring 2006 rush, I chose to use Campbell soup’s tagline, “Mmm, Mmm good” and create a play off of Andy Warhol’s famouse soup can image. Carnegie Mellon University is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and it is still very cold in January. All of our events focused on bringing girls into a warm, cozy, and friendly atmosphere. Also, Andy Warhol was from Pittsburgh and had attended Carnegie Mellon University.
